TRAVEL TO CHIANG RAI
Chiang Rai is the peaceful neighbor of Chiang Mai. Although not as noisy as Chiang Mai, but its mystery beauty makes everyone want to explore once.
The city is 785 km north of Bangkok and near the borders of Laos and Myanmar. Chiang Rai has a long history from the 7th century. In 1262, it was built as the first capital of the Mangrai Dynasty by King Meng Rai. Nowadays, Chiang Rai is the famous tourist destination of Thailand but still preserve the natural beauty. The land is blessed with a variety of beautiful places and ancient monuments. Visitors come to Chiang Rai can explore the pristine of the countryside and indulge in indigenous culture. For those who don't like the noisy place and want to discover some traditional things, Chiang Rai definitely is your ideal destination.
Wat Rong Khun: The highlight of Chiang Rai is Wat Rong Khun. Most of the more than 40,000 Buddhist temples in Thailand have a distinctive yellow color and a long history but the Wat Rong Khun is really different from all of this tradition. The original temple was badly destroyed in 1996 and then artist Chalermchai Kositpipat decided to invest in rebuilding all temples with his own funds. The temple was rebuilt in 1997 in entirely white color. He believes that the white color represents for the pure of Buddha. The white temple compound consists of nine main buildings. Some parts of the compound were completed but the others are still in the process. Tourists coming here can watch many unique and meaningful sculptures, pictures.
Wat Phra Kaew: Not as splendid as Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok, the Wat Phra Kaew Chiang Rai is one of the most peaceful and sacred places. Wat Phra Kaew Chiang Rai is where the statue of Emerald Buddha was found. Today, although not the home of the famous statue, Wat Phra Kaew Chiang Rai is worshiping almost complete copy of the Emerald Buddha. Besides this statue, the Phra Kaew also keeps a copper statue of Buddha Phra Jao Lan Thong, which is believed to be 700 years old.
Mae Fah Luang Art & Cultural Park: If you do not have much time but still want to discover the history as well as the traditions in Chiang Rai, a visit to Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Park is the most suitable choice. As one of the tourist attractions in Chiang Rai, this park is located about 5 km west from the city center. The scenery inside the park is well designed, there are rows of green trees along the lake and interesting trails. Coming to Mae Fah Luang Art & Cultural Park, tourist cannot miss some special places inside such as Candle Light Museum, Mae Fah Luang Garden or Hall of Opium.
Night Market Chiang Rai: The most active and animated place in Chiang Rai is its night market. There are many food stalls or restaurants where you can try Thai cuisine or relax after a long tired day. You can also find some interesting thing or souvenirs for your family and friends.
